There are shows you remember because of the performances, and then there are shows that become something more because of everything surrounding them. LØLØ’s stop at El Club in Detroit became the latter. With Dawson Gamble and Caroline Romano joining her for the night, the show started as another chance for fans to come together around live music. Caroline Romano stepped in as direct support and brought another dose of emotionally driven songwriting to the stage before LØLØ. Her performance felt particularly at home in a room like El Club, where the closeness between artist and audience allows the more personal moments to really connect. Romano balanced that vulnerability with plenty of energy, continuing to build anticipation as the room filled in around her. Then LØLØ took the stage, and the show became something entirely different.

Just one day earlier, Chad Gilbert of New Found Glory had passed away. For LØLØ, this wasn’t simply the loss of an influential musician from a band she admired. Chad was her friend and someone who played an important role in her career. He discovered her music on Spotify and encouraged her to join New Found Glory on the road for what would become her first tour. From there, the two developed a special connection that extended far beyond simply sharing a stage.

That grief was understandably still incredibly raw. LØLØ’s band took the stage wearing New Found Glory shirts in Chad’s honor, while LØLØ herself was dealing with the physical toll of everything she had experienced emotionally the day before. She had lost her voice from grieving. Simply getting on stage under those circumstances would have been understandable as an accomplishment on its own. Instead, she powered through and gave Detroit an incredible show.

There was an emotional weight behind the performance that couldn’t be manufactured. Songs that might have carried one meaning on another night suddenly felt different, and the connection between LØLØ and the people standing in front of her became even more important. This wasn’t about pretending everything was okay. It was about allowing the grief to exist while still finding enough strength to sing, laugh, cry, and share a room with people who were willing to carry some of that weight with her.

One of the most powerful moments came when LØLØ dedicated “Vicious Love” to Chad, a New Found Glory song she had performed alongside him many times during that first tour. On this night, the song carried an entirely different meaning. What had once been a moment shared between friends on stage became a way to remember one of those friends after he was gone. It was heartbreaking, but it was also a beautiful reminder of the way music can preserve pieces of the people who helped shape our lives.

LØLØ could have canceled the show, and nobody would have questioned that decision. Instead, she chose to be there.
